- Catholic weddings in Italy are the only 'religious' legally binding wedding recognised in Italy. Therefore, only religious weddings with a Catholic rite can have legal validity and automatically registered worlwide.
- if one of you was married before with a religious ceremony, you cannot marry with a catholic rite unless an official annulment was granted by the religious authorities

Requirements to get married with a catholic rite is that at least one of you is catholic.
