Just Get Married! Italy Weddings: Weddings in Orvieto, Umbria | ||||||||||||||||
In the centre of Italy, built in a hilly area on the summit of a tufa rock- the so called Rupe- Orvieto is a majestic and fascinating city, the perfect location for a real Italian wedding with great food and fine wine! Orvieto together with ancient churches spreadout along the etruscan town, also offers a variety of Wedding Halls, to match any italian wedding ceremony ideas. From Etruscan Grottos where a romantic 'out of time' ceremony will take place surrounded by hundreds of candles to a theatrical, pompeous wedding hall in the renown Mancinelli Theater of Orvieto. The town hall of Orvieto also offers two elegantly decorated wedding halls. Orvieto, on a little more than a kilometre in length and eight hundred metres of width lies a history rich in artistic and cultural testimony which date from the Etruscan period to the second millenium. The historical centre of Orvieto provides a patrimony of artistic and architectural evidence joined to a circuit of important museums. Together with magnificent monuments, which cover centuries of history from the Etruscan period to the 18th century, we also find evidence less noted , like the many beautiful palaces of illustrious families, the small churches which lend themselves to pleasant strolls through the areas of the city. For your wedding guests traveling to Orvieto, offers and temptations for the taste buds which surround the excellent characteristic wine and food and traditional cuisine which presents and exalts it, is now of the cardinal points on which the image of the city is built, and as a consequence, it is one of the aspects of the heart and soul of the historical centre. Orvieto restaurants offer the typical and traditional Umbria cuisine, often revisited with an original touch yet never changing the culinary identity of the territory. There are no boring themes on the menus proposed: from "gallina mbriaca" (drunken chicken) to the umbrichelli (pasta typical of Orvieto), and dishes of barley and pulses which are typical of an area where agriculture is a strong tradition, among the peculiarities of Orvieto cuisine worth a mention are dished based on truffles, this mysterious underground fungus which Teofrasto thought was generated by Autumn thunder; the splendid extra-virgin olive oil, some of which have a DOP guaranty (denomination of protected origin), meat from the Chianina, pork, chicken and wild boar, cold-cuts, cheeses, again many with a DOP, pulses and vegetables, poor man's food but never poor in the way they are cooked and served. Also, the link between Orvieto and wine can be defined as ancestral. It would seem that in the past the Tufa city was called Oinarea, that is "the city where wine flows", cited by the pseudo-Aristotle in a passage Etruscan customs were described, or rather stigmatised, with regard to drink, food and pleasures.
